Amazon.com Product Description
Save money on monthly gym fees and get yourself in shape at the same time with the Schwinn Airdyne upright exercise bike. The Airdyne features a smooth, air-based resistance braking system along with a pair of sturdy exercise arms. The advantage of the unique air resistance system is that it offers as much resistance as you can handle.

The Airdyne's dual-action arms help you work out your entire body.
The harder you pedal, the greater the resistance. The dual-action design, meanwhile, synchronizes your arm and leg movements to simulate your natural motion, helping you work your upper and lower body at the same time. Finally, the air resistance system creates streams of cooling air while you pedal, making for a comfortable home workout.

The Airdyne includes a comprehensive computer console that provides feedback on time, distance, workload level, calories burned, calories per hour, heart rate, and RPM. As a result, it's easy to keep track of your overall fitness level. Other features include an extra-quiet chain drive system; built-in heart rate monitoring; an LCD display; an anatomically correct seat with extra padding; and a capacity of 300 pounds. The Airdyne measures 22.5 by 48 by 50 inches (W x H x D), weighs 96 pounds, and carries the following warranties: 30 years on the frame, three years on parts and electronics, and one year on labor and wear items.

5 out of 5 stars Arthritic knees   August 14, 2010
Suzanne F. Burke
Can't believe I waited so long to get this cycle. Used them in the gym and always wanted one. Perfect work out for my arthritic knees.
Very well built and not a problem putting it together. I know I will have it and use it for the rest of my life!

5 out of 5 stars I have a 1978   July 17, 2010
Debra Brown Fraser (San Diego, CA)
OK, I will weigh in. I have a 1978 model in perfect condition, I bought in 1988. I have used it off and on over the last 22 years. This machine is a classic and has NEVER malfunctioned. It is solid steel and built. They obviously knew to leave well enough alone.

5 out of 5 stars Best I Ever Had   July 16, 2010

My home gym, 'Elyptical,' was getting lonely (They say all pets should have a companion!). I've been doing my fair share to accompany it for a long time, it needed some inspiration. I'd been having difficulty in my left elbow and it really needed some exercise for upper body and joints. You see, my elyptical is stationary for the arms.
I recalled in the 80's about an old companion I had left at the 'YMCA.' It was the old 'Airdyne,'. I remembered how faithful the old "Airdyne" was and decided to look my old friend up. To my surprise, I found my old "Airdyne," as happy as can be. I decided to bring her home so my "Elyptical" could have some company!
Now they sit side by side as happy as can be. I can only exercise one of these girls at a time, but I think they are happy and not jealous of the other. I feel I've found the perfect combination and all is well.
Be advised that either of these girls are good companions, but need to be ridden. I've found both the Schwinn and the Precor families to be of good stock, and would recommend either. If I had to only pick one, I would probably suspect my decision would lean toward my old friend, the "Airdyne."
So be of good cheer, and know; when starting a family, the love that you extend, will be reciprocated!Schwinn Airdyne Upright Exercise Bike

5 out of 5 stars Just the kick in the butt I needed!   July 12, 2010
E. Joseph (Cleveland, OH)
My husband and I began looking for a new piece of exercise equipment as the life of our elliptical was winding down. It was cheaply made, and the creaks and squeaks it was making after 5 years were completely unnerving. We were leaning towards a treadmill when I came across the Schwinn bikes. I wanted something sturdy and durable, that I could get a quick, decent workout on. I think I found all of these things in our new Airdyne! I searched around online and found Amazon had the best price, but they were out of stock when we went to purchase. Not knowing how long they would be out of stock, I ended up purchasing from Ebay from a reputable seller for a comparable price. The assembly took longer than anticipated - it took a good day and a half for us to figure out how to attach the monitor to the unit- but we did it!

This thing will give you the workout you want - the harder you peddle, the more resistance you get. If you want to go for distance, you can keep it slow and steady. I think it has some programs you can follow on the monitor, but so far I have only measured the time and distance I have gone. I feel like I can get a very effective workout in less than half the time it took on the elliptical. It also gives a pretty effective upper body workout- just put your feet on the pegs and swing those arms! The fan wheel provides a nice breeze to help keep you cool - genius! Be advised that it does make a loud whirring sound -not an unpleasant sound, but it makes it difficult to listen to music or watch TV during exercise. I suggest you get out your earbuds and MP3 player.

All in all, I am thrilled with the quality of the bike so far. Unlike a lot of cardio equipment, you don't need batteries or an AC adapter to use it. There is no magnetic resistance to break on you. It is sturdy and substantial feeling. They have been making these bikes for over 30 years, and people still resell ones over 20 years old! Everywhere I looked I found positive feedback for the Airdyne, which made me confident in making this substantial of a purchase online, sight unseen. I hope to be using this for years to come.

5 out of 5 stars Works great for heavy guy trying to get fit   June 4, 2010

I'm a very heavy guy who is trying to get it together. I use the treadmill, but frankly it hurts in my knees shins and back so bad I can't get get a hard workout on it. I bought this airdyne bike at one of those second hand sports shops purely on a whim. I saw it and was admiring the quality of it, wondering if it will hold my weight. It looked so sturdy compared to the plastic clad pieces of junk everywhere else I had looked. Other exercise bikes except the top of the line recumbent bikes have a cap at 300 max, some less than that. I would try them out and they wobbled and groaned under my weight. The guy said can you believe that bike is 30 yrs old? The odometer says it has over 2,000 miles on it. I said well it looks great and he invited me to try it. I said if it breaks under my weight I'm not to blame, and he just smiled and said it could take way more than what I could dish out. Well that was history. Even at over 300lbs this bike never groaned or moaned or wobbled or creaked or in any way acted like it was going to give up. It is built solid as a rock. Everything works great, the action is smooth and I'm getting a work out like I've never had in my life. I went from struggling off a couple pounds a week to dropping 7-10 a week. Can't say enough good about this machine. When it finally busts I'm gonna buy another and another. But if this is an indication.. I doubt I will ever wear this one out in my lifetime. It may actually be saving my life. No knee pain, and no foot pain, which is a problem I've had on other stationary bikes. Only one bad thing and that is the seat is pretty firm. I had to kinda angle it down a tad because it was hurting my 'bits and pieces'. I'm going to see if I can replace the seat with one of those that has the cutaway front. But I think with continued weight loss it is going to hurt less and less. Either that or I'll eventually develop a callus on the effected area, ha ha.
